Wurlitzer-Bruck's latest addition to its online catalog is a list of 34 pieces of sheet music by and relating to Louis Moreau Gottschalk (1829-1869), the great 19th-century American pianist and composer. This collection includes a number of first editions and early editions from Gottschalk's authorized publishers, many of them beautiful examples in fine condition.

Indeed, in redesigning the page it was difficult to decide which items to feature because we have so many marvelous items to choose from. Updates & Additions: Early Chamber Music (to 1850)

Wurlitzer-Bruck announces the addition to its online catalog a new collection of 182 items of printed chamber music composed before 1850. This includes significant and rare early editions of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Pleyel and others, as well as hard-to-find editions of repertory often not available in modern editions. The collection includes many string quartets, violin duos and keyboard chamber music of all kinds. We think these items are of particular note:

This collection also includes two important examples of early lithography, the first edition of Mozart's Musical Joke (K522) published by André in Offenbach-am-Main, and the first French edition, published by André's Charenton shop near Paris. The autograph of Mozart's Musical Joke was one of a body of Mozart autographs that the André firm acquired from Mozart's widow in 1799 and began publishing in 1800. The collection also includes one of André's later editions and all three include amusing title page vignettes depicting the hapless musicians satirized in Mozart's music.

Another hard-to-find item is a bound collection of Spohr's Double String Quartets bound together with Mendelssohn's Octet. The Spohr works have not been republished in modern editions but are quite worthy of more attention. This set is beautifully and durably bound and includes three Spohr first editions.

In addition to newly added chamber music, we've also updated the whole online catalog, especially the list of Music Facsimiles, where several new items have been added and others updated.

We've also made changes to the website overall, not least this page of announcements, but also including improvements to the Online Catalog inventory search system. Last of all, we've added a newsfeed for this News & Announcements page (either in Atom format or RSS), so that if you are accustomed to subscribing to newsfeeds, you can subscribe to this page and receive notifications when new announcements are posted.

Website Updates & Additions to the Online Catalogue

We are pleased to announce a set of major updates to our website -- content on all the pages has been updated to reflect new inventory, but, most importantly, new functionality has been added allowing the searching of online inventory lists, the first three being:

Please note that these lists are by no means exhaustive of W-B's entire inventory, though for each of these categories, the lists are nearly comprehensive (omitting only duplicates and new items that have not yet been fully cataloged). A good way to get an overview of the content of the lists is to browse the listboxes of subject headings and composers.
