Although a respected composer in his own right, Robert Russell Bennett was best known for his orchestrations and arrangements of many beloved Broadway and Hollywood musicals by the likes of Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, and Richard Rodgers, among others. He received two Special Tony Awards in 1957 and 2008, earned an Academy Award for his work on the film version of Oklahoma! in 1955, and was awarded an honorary doctorate in 1965.
