The American-British actress, producer, and director, who became the first woman to direct a production at the Metropolitan Opera (Don Carlo, 1950), writes to thank Met coach Alberta Masiello. It is possible she sent this note immediately following that pioneering production, as she notes: If I have to do opera again at all, I wish you would always be around. Webster would direct additional productions at the Met in 1951 and 1959. Uncommon and in excellent condition.
