English composer, orchestrator, and conductor Alfred Cellier is best remembered for his association with Gilbert and Sullivan, for whom he directed several works and composed some overtures. His own shows were also quite successful, though. The Sultan of Mocha premiered in 1874 and became one of Cellier's earliest hits, enjoying multiple revivals within his lifetime.
