SAXOPHONE - SIGURD RASCHER

Rascher, Sigurd (1907-2001)

Autograph Musical Quotation.

February 27, 1974. Octavo. Fine.
An attractive and bold quote with Rascher cleverly writing out his name in notes, inscribing it to Samuel Spinak, the principal violist of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

Originally a clarinetist, Rascher took up the saxophone as a career necessity, then becoming more and more interested in the instrument's possibilities and creating an important career performing and developing the repertoire for classical saxophone. He performed with orchestras all over the world and was admired by Koussevitsky and Toscanini among others, performing solos and works still largely unknown, such as concertos by Glazunov and Ibert.

Although American, Rascher was born in Germany. He left for Denmark during World War II and then in 1939 took up residence in the U.S.
