A handsome framed ensemble with an original cabinet photograph of Massenet, who has penned above his image a quote from Les Erinnyes and inscribed below to Mr. W. Cart, as a souvenir of our encounter in Geneva this December 18th.

At the request of theater producer Félix-Henri Duquesnel, Massenet wrote an overture, intermezzo, and incidental music for a revival of de Lisle's drama Les Erinnyes in 1876. The relatively young French composer was then still trying to establish himself and expressed gratitude for both the commission and the generous terms granted him, writing that Duquesnel had placed forty musicians at my disposal, which, under the circumstances, was a considerable expense and a great favor. The work proved an early success for Massenet and he published it as his opus 10.
