Das Streich-Quartett in Wort und Bild.

A. H. Payne: Leipzig, 1898. Oblong small quarto. 83 pp. Folio of burgundy buckram with inset leather and gilt-stamped title at front. In good condition. Front board and spine with a little wear. Pages disbound and many with chipped edges (none affecting). Red stain to bottom of p. 7 (not affecting) and very occasional spotting throughout, but a clean copy on the whole.
A wonderful catalog of Leipziger and Viennese string quartets at the close of the nineteenth century, replete with a short history and (at least) one photograph of each of the 41 ensembles included (see images for a full list).

A valuable resource for those interested in string quartet performers of this period.
