VIENNA - CONCORDIA BALL 1925

Concordia Ball. Alt-Wiener Hausmusik Ausgewählt von Johann Pilz und Josef Zuth Mit Bildern von Otto Nowak.

Wiener Philharmonicher Verlag A. G.: Wien, 1925. first edition. Oblong 16mo. 71 pp. Eight unnumbered plates. Paper boards with silver string tie at right. Binding a bit dusty. Spine missing with small taped piece at top. Internally clean and crisp.
A charming collection of songs for voice and piano by major German composers, including Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert, with interpolated original images of musical scenes by the Austrian painter Otto Nowak. The book was very likely a souvenir from Vienna's Concordia Ball in 1925. We do not know of another copy.
A publicist association sponsored the inaugural Concordia Ball in 1863 and invited Johann Strauss to compose a number for the occasion. The result was his beloved Morgenblätter waltz. Excepting only some years during wartimes, the ball has been held annually ever since, and is currently celebrated in the summer months.
