"Lawrence Tibbett". n.d. 10" h x 8" 1. In excellent condition.A wonderful original black-and-white matte photograph of the operatic baritone and film actor, which he neatly signs at the lower right. A handsome portrait and fine example.
Lawrence Tibbett was a fixture at the Metropolitan Opera, appearing there no fewer than 600 times between 1923 and 1950. He was also a co-founder, along with violinist Jascha Heifetz, of the American Guild of Musical Artists, a labor union that remains active to this day. Although he was highly regarded as an opera singer, he was also well known and liked for his musical and film work, recordings of popular songs, and radio advertisements for the Packard Motor Car Company.
