Harrison, May (1890-1959)
Postcard Photograph Signed
"May Harrison". n.d. Postcard. In excellent condition (top left corner with crease and minor chip, not affecting). The English violinist signs a matte postcard photograph in which she is shown holding her instrument Uncommon.
May was the eldest of the four musical Harrison sisters. Although she won praise for her interpretations of Bach, Elgar, Handel, and Mendelssohn, she was perhaps best known for her performances of Brahms' Double Concerto for Violin and Cello, which she offered with her sister, cellist Beatrice Harrison, more than sixty times. Upon hearing the sisters perform that work, Frederick Delius wrote his own double concerto just for them.
