Birgit Nilsson was the foremost dramatic soprano of her time, best known for her performances of Wagner and Strauss and for her interpretation of Turandot. Behind the scenes, her sense of humor was just as big as her voice: when asked if rival singer Joan Sutherland's bouffant hairdo was natural, Birgit replied, I don't know. I haven't pulled it yet.
