Photograph Signed
"Ernest Schelling". To Peter Reed. n.d. c. 11.25" h x 7.25" w. In excellent condition with some minor gray specks at right.A nice original sepia portrait of the American conductor, pianist, and composer, which he signs and inscribes to music critic Peter Hugh Reed.
Ernest Schelling began his career as a piano prodigy. He gained admittance to the Paris Conservatoire at age seven and was a private pupil of Ignace Paderewski from 1896-1899. Although he remained an active pianist throughout his career, he is best remembered as the founder and conductor of the New York Philharmonic's Young People's Concerts (the very same that Leonard Bernstein would later make famous via television).
