The great conductor signs and dates the verso of a postcard photograph, the recto showing a black-and-white image of him at the podium, conducting a rehearsal at the Musikverein in Vienna.

In 1934, the year Toscanini signed this postcard, he conducted the Salzburg Festival for the first time. He was also featured on the cover of Time magazine for the second time, having appeared there first in 1926. (Time would bestow him this honor a third time 1948; no conductor has ever been on the cover more).
