Tetrazzini, Luisa (1871-1940)

Postcard Photograph Signed

"Luisa Tetrazzini". Los Angeles, 1912. Postcard. In very good condition. Some silvering to black background.
A full portrait of the colorful Italian soprano, shown in an elegant gown and signed by her at the bottom.
Luisa Tetrazzini was a singer of international acclaim, hailed as the successor of her good friend and idol, Adelina Patti. She sang throughout Europe, South America, and the United States, and proved popular everywhere she went.

When some odd legal troubles prevented her from performing in New York in 1910, she famously declared, "I will sing in San Francisco if I have to sing there in the streets, for I know the streets of San Francisco are free". In December she would do just that, wearing a glittering white gown on Christmas Eve before nearly three hundred thousand attendees. This photo, which she signed in Los Angeles two years later, must have been a souvenir for one of her adoring Californian fans.
