Amato, Pasquale (1878-1942)
Photograph Signed
"Pasquale Amato". Framed with a total measurement of 10.5" h x 8" w. In very good condition. A small hole near lower left corner, affecting the back of Amato's jacket (but not his signature).A nice original black-and-white photograph of the famous baritone, shown standing with his hands in his pockets. He has boldy signed and dated across his image. Nicely presented in a simple black and gold frame.
Pasquale Amato was born in Naples but spent the better part of his career in New York, where he sang with the Metropolitan Opera from 1908 until 1921. It was there that he created the part of Jack Rance in Puccini's La fanciulla del West, singing opposite Enrico Caruso and Emmy Destinn, and conducted by Toscanini. Amato sang frequently under Toscanini, in fact, both at the Met and in Europe.
