Peter Pears was the life and professional partner of the great English composer Benjamin Britten for 37 years, their relationship lasting until Britten's death in 1976. It was for Pears that Britten wrote his seminal operas Billy Budd and Peter Grimes, as well as the Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings.
