A rare original image of the eminent composer standing with his viola on the stage of the empty Musikverein in Vienna. He has signed in the lower white margin. Photographs showing Hindemith with his viola are extremely scarce.

Although Hindemith was among the leading composers of the twentieth century, it is sometimes forgotten today that he was also a serious violist. He founded the Amar Quartet and was the soloist of the premiere of William Walton's Viola Concerto.
