Grainger, Percy (1882-1961)
Photograph Signed
"Percy Grainger". To Dr. Albert Rappaport. September 27, 1942. 9.75" h x 7.75" w. In excellent condition. An original matte black-and-white photograph portrait of the Australian pianist-composer, shown seated in a pinstripe suit. He signs and inscribes the image to a Dr. Albert Rappaport: in artistic sympathy + in whole-hearted admiration for the great things he is doing for culture and humanity at the Town Hall Forum from his friend. A very nice example.
In the fall of 1940, Grainger and his wife moved to Springfield, Missouri, out of concern that the escalating war might spread to America's eastern coast. Once settled, Grainger undertook a daunting schedule of charity concerts, aiding the war effort with no fewer than 270 performances that often required him to travel to Army and Air Force camps. This signature dates to that period.
