Thomas Beecham founded the London Philharmonic and the Royal Philharmonic in 1932 and 1946, respectively, and also frequently presided over the Hallé Orchestra and Liverpool Philharmonic. The BBC hailed him as "Britain's first international conductor" owing to his extensive and successful tours of Europe and the Americas.
