An original glossy black-and-white portrait photograph of the Mexican composer and conductor, which he has signed at the left.
Carlos Chávez is best remembered for a compositional style that incorporated traditional Mexican music, modern abstract trends, and the influences of composers from Schumann to Stravinsky. Chávez was also an active conductor, theorist, journalist, and educator, as well as the founder of the Mexican Symphonic Orchestra. He held conducting and teaching appointments throughout the United States and Mexico, contributed over five hundred articles to the Mexico City newspaper El Universal, and published a book on electronic music.
