The leading cellist of his generation, Yo-Yo Ma is known for his skillful technique, joyful approach to performance, and varied repertoire. In addition to his landmark recordings of Baroque and Classical works, Ma has also made albums of American, Chinese, and Brazilian folk music and is featured on several motion picture soundtracks. Barack Obama appointed Ma to the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities and awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
