Ben-Haim began his career in Germany as Bruno Walter's assistant before moving to Tel Aviv and turning his attention to composition. His output includes works for chamber, choir, and orchestra, and his compositional style, which embraces Jewish, Middle Eastern, and late Romantic influences, has been compared to that of Ernest Bloch.
