Milan, 1920. Total size in mat: 14" h x 19" w. Total size of photograph: 8.5" h x 13.25" w. In excellent condition. Very minor creases. A bit blurry at corners (seemingly original to photograph; mostly affecting the harpists).A wonderful and uncommon image: a sepia photograph showing Toscanini at the podium with the La Scala Orchestra on the stage of the old concert hall of the Conservatorio di Milano.
PHO-16048$400This photograph was taken in 1920, a year which proved very important for both conductor and ensemble: in December, on a maiden tour of the United States, Toscanini and the orchestra made their very first recordings at the studio of the Victor Talking Machine Company in Camden, New Jersey.
