Ysaÿe, Eugène (1858-1931)
Photograph Signed
"E. Ysaÿe". To Madame Alfred Pinneo. New York, June 15, 1920. 11" h x 7.25" w. In very good condition. A couple of very minor original smudges to inscription.A matte original sepia Mishkin photograph of the great violinist, shown gazing down at his instrument. He signs the well-known image and inscribes it to a Madame Alfred Pinneo in the lower white margin. A wonderful item.
As his health deteriorated in the 1910s, Ysaÿe accepted fewer solo engagements and turned to conducting, teaching, and composing to remain musically active. At the time he signed this photograph, he served as the director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He held the post from 1918 until 1922 and made several recordings with the ensemble.
