Salvi, Alberto (1893-1983)

Photograph Signed

"Alberto Salvi". To Edgar A. Mors. New York, April 6, 1929. 10" h x 8" w. Slightly rumpled but otherwise in very good condition.
An original matte sepia photo of the distinguished harpist, who is shown playing his instrument. He has signed and inscribed the image over the strings of his harp and dated it at the bottom.
Alberto Salvi was perhaps the foremost harpist of the early twentieth century, earning the moniker world's greatest harpist for his popular solo recitals. His wide repertory ranged from Rameau and Bach to Debussy and Ravel, and he occasionally appeared alongside famous singers like Enrico Caruso and Rosa Ponselle. Alberto was also the elder half-brother of Victor Salvi, the most important harp maker of the twentieth century and an accomplished harpist in his own right.
