Eames, Emma (1865-1952)

Cabinet Photograph Signed

"Emma Eames Story". To Marie R. Kenney. n.d. c. 6.5" h x 4" w. In a period tabletop frame. In very good condition. A light smudge near Eames' head and a few minor imperfections in glass of period frame.
American soprano Emma Eames wears a flowing white gown and poses in a chair for this sepia cabinet photograph, which she signs and inscribes at the bottom. The photograph is nicely presented in a simple period frame.
Emma Eames was a favorite at the Paris Opéra, Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, and Monte Carlo Opera. She tackled a little bit of everything, having begun her career as a lyric soprano and shifted to dramatic roles later on; her repertoire included works by Mozart, Wagner, Verdi, Gounod, Puccini, and Mascagni. Although Eames disliked the way she sounded on studio recordings, she is heard to advantage in a live performance of Tosca, captured on one of Mapleson's cylinders at the Metropolitan in 1903.
