Fine condition, except for marks from previous frame (not visible in mat).Original pencil portrait of the eminent French cellist shown from the side with the scroll of his cello. Navarra has boldly signed his name in full in ink across the bottom portion.
The artist, Hans Herbatschek-Hansen (1907-1967), has also signed the portrait: Hans H.H. 2/15/1962. He was a Viennese commercial artist, stage designer, and poster artist who emigrated to the United States in 1938. This portrait comes from his estate.
Sold together with a signed LP recording of Navarra performing the Schumann Cello Concerto and Bloch's Schelomo with the Czech Philharmonic conducted by Ancerl. The back of the LP jacket was signed by Navarra on May 25, 1969. Supraphon SUA 50581.
