Image clean with unassuming professionally repaired tear at left side. Left margin worn and uneven, but completely covered by mat; bottom margin trimmed and missing publisher information. Queen Victoria created the position of royal piper in 1843 after a visit to Taymouth Castle, where she and Prince Albert were quite taken with the bagpiper. Piper Major William Ross (1822-1891) was the second man to hold the office.
