Chappell & Co, London, c. 1855 (as per British Museum). Total size in mat: 16.5" h x 13.5" w (41.5 cm x 34.5 cm). Total size of print: 13.5" h x 9.75" w (34.5 cm x 24.5 cm). Image clean with unassuming professionally repaired tear at left side. Left margin worn and uneven, but completely covered by mat; bottom margin trimmed and missing publisher information. Beautifully triple matted in gray, green, and red.

Queen Victoria created the position of royal piper in 1843 after a visit to Taymouth Castle, where she and Prince Albert were quite taken with the bagpiper. Piper Major William Ross (1822-1891) was the second man to hold the office.
