Gottfried Keller, a German composer and harpsichordist active in England in the second half of the seventeenth century, wrote a thorough-bass treatise but died before he could see it in print. It was published posthumously in 1705 but riddled with errors. The publishers of this edition of Holder's treatise appended to it Keller's work, here entitled Rules for Playing a Thorow-Bass (beginning on p. 159), with an attempt to correct its many mistakes. A note in the frontmatter explains its inclusion: The intention of Publishing Mr. Keller's Rules, (by way of Appendix to Dr. Holder's Book) was chiefly to rescue them from many Mistakes and Errors, which were occasioned by the Ignorance of the first Publishers of them on Plates, which wou'd never have happen'd, if the judicious Author had liv'd to corrected the Plates himself.

The periodical counted around 700 subscribers in advance of its first issue in 1927, but that number plummeted to 350 when that issue appeared, much to Cowell's dismay. Ives, however, was so taken with the enterprise that he submitted a check for an additional 25 subscriptions. Cowell called Ives to offer his personal thanks, and, after examining some of Ives' works, offered to publish them in New Music.
Ives demurred at first, doubting that the series was truly non-commercial, but eventually changed his tune. He offered some of his scores to Cowell on the condition that he (Ives) would pay for all of the production costs. Because Ives had only self-published before, New Music effectively became his first publisher, and his music was the feature of several early issues beginning in 1929. This volume of songs marks the third time his works appeared in the publication.
Arthur Cohn was a publisher, conductor, composer, and orchestrator as well as the longtime Director of the publishing company Carl Fisher, where he was responsible for publishing many of Ives's works. He was also director of the Edwin Fleischer Collection in Philadelphia from 1934-52.This second edition lists the same publication month and year (October 1933) as the first edition. While we have not been able to determine the reason for this (the publication history of New Music has yet to be thoroughly researched), it is possible that New Music quickly produced the second edition owing to the issue’s popularity.

In very good condition.MAN-15799 $400More Images/InquireCopyist manuscript in pencil, scored for piano with an additional melody line and no lyrics. Titled "One More Dance" on Harms Inc. music paper. Several notations, possibly in a different hand. The cover is titled in pencil One More Dance / B / Jerome D. Kern."One More Dance" is a waltz from Jerome Kern's highly successful Broadway show Music in the Air (1932). It is the first song in the second act and is sung by the character Bruno.
Because this score has no lyrics but includes indications such as hurdy-gurdy imitation and bassoons, it may have been intended for the orchestrator, who, in this case, was the illustrious Robert Russell Bennett. Perhaps it was considered for use in the entr'acte prior to the second act.
Since we acquired this manuscript with other material associated with the premiere of Music in the Air, we are confident it was used in some capacity for the show's highly successful opening on November 8, 1932.

That Kozeluch was held in high regard by his contemporaries is evidenced by the many ways in which his career shadowed that of Mozart: he was offered Mozart's old court organist appointment in Salzburg in 1781 (but refused it for fear of being similarly mistreated there) and, upon Mozart's death, his Kammer Kappellmeister and Hofmusik Compositor positions at the Viennese court. Kozeluch accepted the latter two and held them until his own death in 1818. - Kozeluch, Leopold (1747-1818) Three Sonatas for the Piano Forte with or without Additional Keys and Accompaniments for the Violin & Violoncello, Op.
